Week 2: Top tasks

It’s been 2 weeks since our experiment with adding a Top Task to our 10-minute tidying. Here’s a recap of where we are and how it’s going!

This month’s tidying challenge

Since we did a 30-day 10-minute tidying challenge last month to start building our tidying habits, we are building on that skill set with another 5 minutes dedicated to Top Tasks.

Here is what this looks like:

  • I set my timer for 15 minutes.

  • Do “The Basics” as quickly as I can:

    • Dishes: Putting them in the dishwasher or putting them away

    • Emptying the sink

    • Taking out the trash, recycling, and compost

  • Then, I move onto my Top Task list (see my calendar and task lists below)

    • Some days I have a dedicated Top Task.

    • Other days, I choose a task from my list.

On my calendar I put a room to focus on each week for the days I don’t have a Top Task scheduled. The Top Tasks I’ve chosen are chores I think should be done every week to maintain a healthy home, so every Tuesday I clean the toilet, every Wednesday I clean the shower, and so on. You can add your own Top Tasks to suit your home and family.

I find having a dedicated day for certain chores makes it easier to keep things maintained.
